After a year of absence due to the pandemic, the Segovian sky was once again filled with colours with hot air balloons at the third staging of the festival.
Segovia is a municipality in the autonomous community of Castile and León in Spain. It is the capital of the province of Segovia. It is an hour’s drive from Madrid, at the confluence of the Eresma and Clamores rivers, at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama. Its aqueduct, which can be seen in the photo, dates back to Roman times. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.
It is also the Spanish city with the highest number of balloon flights – 12,000 passengers fly over Segovia in balloons each year – and it is one of the ten favourite destinations in the world for this type of flight. On this occasion, fourteen teams from Andalusia, Asturias, Castile and León, Castilla and La Mancha, Galicia and Catalonia participated.
During the festival, several activities were organised, such as an exhibition of photographs from previous events and educational workshops.
In addition, a specific competition was created to make balloons accessible, which makes it possible to take another step towards social inclusion.
The event, organised by the company “Siempre en las Nubes” [always in the clouds], had restricted access to the public due to the health measures related to Covid 19. This did not prevent this event from having its usual success. The competition was followed on social media and could be viewed live on Youtube.
Vitogas continues to support aerospace sports, sponsoring and providing the energy needed for this type of event.
